Notification of Extension of Two Programs
November 16, 2020
AUDIENCE: All Staff
NOTIFICATION OF EXTENSION OF TWO PROGRAMS:
1) COVID-19 Paid Administrative Leave
2) Temporary Increase in Maximum Vacation Accrual for Policy-Covered Employees
Dear Colleagues:
The University of California continues to respond to the fast-moving developments surrounding COVID-19, and we continue to take steps to best protect and support our students, faculty, staff and communities. Two important programs have recently been granted extensions by UC President Drake:
EXTENSION OF COVID-19 PAID ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE
In March, an executive order was issued to provide all eligible employees a one-time allotment of up to 128 hours of paid administrative leave to address the extraordinary demands placed on UC employees due to impacts related to COVID-19 on themselves and their family members. The availability of this one-time allotment was set to expire on December 31, 2020. On November 12, President Drake extended the availability of these paid administrative leave hours to June 30, 2021.
Employees who have already used their allotment of the COVID-19 paid administrative leave will not be eligible for additional hours. Employees who have not used any or a portion of the one-time allotment will be eligible to use the remaining hours until June 30, 2021.

EXTENSION OF TEMPORARY INCREASE IN MAXIMUM VACATION ACCRUAL FOR POLICY-COVERED STAFF
Under the Absence from Work Policy (PPSM-2.210), policy-covered staff who reach the maximum accrual stop earning more vacation leave until their balance falls below the maximum – with a four-month extension allowed under certain circumstances. In June 2020, UC President Napolitano approved a temporary increase to that four-month extension for eligible staff, effective retroactively from June 1 through December 31, 2020. Now, UC President Drake has approved an extension to June 30, 2021.
The extension will be applied automatically through UCPath. If you are an eligible policy-covered (non-represented) staff member, you will continue accruing vacation leave through June 30, 2021, even if you are over your maximum accrual. On July 1, 2021, policy-covered staff who are over their maximum accrued vacation leave will no longer accrue additional leave until they bring their vacation balance below the maximum.
Represented employees will continue to be governed by their collective bargaining agreements.
